Dr Danislav Sapundjiev
Dr D. Sapundjiev is research scientist and manager of the ionosonde and cosmic ray observatories at the RMI Geophysical Centre in Dourbes. His current research activities consists of modelling the variations in the ionosphere and cosmic ray intensity based on ionosonde, neutron monitor and GNSS receiver measurements and their use for space-weather forecasting. He has a diploma in electronics engineering and MSc degree in Physics from the University of Sofia (2001) as well as a PhD in Nuclear Engineering from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (2007). His research experience includes the development of optical and magnetic thin films by laser ablation at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, development of materials for advanced reactors at the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre (SCK-CEN), and modelling / improvement of targets for neutron cross section measurements at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM).
