Dr Claudia Borries
Dr Claudia Borries studied geo-informatics at the University of Applied Sciences Neubrandenburg between 2001 and 2005. In 2005, she started her scientific work at DLR. In 2010 she received her PhD degree from the Free University of Berlin. Today, Claudia Borries leads the group “Prediction of ionospheric perturbations” in DLR’s institute of communication and navigation. Her main interest is the impact of solar wind disturbances on the ionosphere.
Since 2015, Claudia Borries is coordinator of the “Expert Service Centre Ionospheric Weather” in the frame of the space weather network in the ESA Space Situation Awareness (SSA) Programme. Thus, she has a broad knowledge about the current status of the development of the SSA space weather network. She confirms that TID detection and forecast is currently a gap in the service provision, which urgently needs to be filled by European assets.
